Description

The same cacao-and-maple story, in a 0.5 oz square: Dominican Republic cacao from a Bird Friendly® certified farm, paired with maple sugar from a family farm in Maine that sits along the same migratory bird route. Two ingredients, one very specific flavor: think Belgian waffle piled with wild berries and warm maple syrup. A great size for sampling or gifting one at a time.

About Smithsonian Bird Friendly®: This mini bar's cacao carries the same 100% Bird Friendly certification as our full-size bar, a Smithsonian-developed standard built on decades of ecological research. It's only awarded to farms that are deforestation-free and that keep real bird habitat intact through shade-grown canopy or protected forest. Every bar supports both that on-the-ground conservation work and the research behind the program.

About Audubon Bird-Friendly Maple: Our maple sugar carries Audubon's Bird-Friendly Maple verification, meaning it comes from a sugarbush run as living forest habitat: a mix of tree species beyond just sugar maple, standing snags and downed logs left alone, and leaf litter intact for ground-nesting birds.

Seahorse Chocolate joined 1% for the Planet to back up our values with action. Through this membership, we donate one percent of our annual sales to groups working to protect biodiversity and build climate resilience in cocoa landscapes. This commitment gives us the chance to support the people and organizations doing critical on-the-ground work where cocoa is grown.
Cacao is especially well-suited to play a key role in climate and biodiversity solutions. When grown in diverse agroforestry systems, it can support healthy ecosystems, store carbon, retain water, and help protect soil, all while offering a profitable crop for smallholder farmers. These working landscapes are essential to meeting global conservation goals. Through 1% for the Planet, we’re investing in the future of cocoa and the landscapes that make great chocolate possible. We’ll be sharing more soon about the projects we support through our newsletter, so join us here for updates.

Smithsonian Bird Friendly® | Zorzal Cacao

The Smithsonian Bird Friendly certification, developed by Smithsonian scientists, is rooted in decades of ecological research and sets a rigorous standard for farms committed to bird habitat and biodiversity. Shade-grown cacao in a certified organic agroforestry system, deforestation-free and maintained to provide habitat for migratory birds.

Audubon Bird-Friendly | Gray Jay Maple Works

Gray Jay Maple Works has earned Audubon's public recognition for managing their sugarbush, a maple forest stand, to support nesting and migratory birds and overall forest health. Over 25% of forest-dependent bird populations have declined in the last 50 years. Most of them live on privately owned land like this.
